Grandma Update

Grandma was discharged from the hospital today. She will not need to spend time in the rehab center(read: nursing home).

From the whole family, thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray that the infection can be killed off with antibiotics.

Remembering Challenger

Back when I was in the 6th grade I had an English teacher who gave the same extra credit word on our spelling tests.

C-h-a-l-l-e-n-g-e-r

He did it so we would never forget the name and the tragedy of their death.

20 years later, I still remember.

To the crew of the Challenger - may you always rest in peace and may God have mercy on your souls.

To Mr.Delong - thank you. I may not remember much from that year but I do remember Challenger.

Small Steps

Grandma is eating solid food, albeit soup, vegetables and fruit but that's better than the four day starvation diet she was on earlier this week. All looks good for a Sunday exit from the hospital, provided she gets out of bed and walks tomorrow.

Grandma Update

So, how would you like to carry 750 cc's of nasty, infected fluid in your kidney?

That's how much my grandmother had in her's. No wonder the infection wasn't going away and it explains the pain she was in.

Now, we hope that medicine will kill off the infection.

Today is the Day

Grandma's surgery is today (in fact, it might be underway already). Therefore, I will be at the hospital all day.

Please pray for her.

Lobo Football News

I don't normally get fired up for college football in January, but this is the best news this team has had this century. Thank you Dan Dodd for creating an offense so bad that we can hire a name coach to run the offense. I just hope our special teams don't perform like the offense has done in the past. I'd hate to see the special teams choke late in the game like the offense has done in the past.

Another thought - does this mean we will actually have a real quarterback next season? Goodbye Kole McKamey. You should've never been given a scholarship much less the starting position here!

MLK Jr. Day

So today is a holiday (read: day off). Now, any normal person would have stayed in or gone out on the town for the day.

Not me (insert your abnormal comment here).

Instead, I got up early to chat with Michelle in London (she knew the answer to the question I've been asking the last two weeks). Then, I took off for Montano and Coors, to take a picture of the once mighty Rio Grande. Afterwards, I subjected myself to the abuse that is picking up eleven (yes, 11) bags of leaves at the girls house (you know, I've done more yard work there than at my own place). I finished it off by accompanying Heather to the body shop to get an estimate on her vehicle (somebody played bumper cars with her Friday night).

Now I'm home and I think I will relax the rest of the day (at least until I decide to workout and keep my back from stiffening up).

Grandma Update

O.K. - at least there is a surgery date set. January 24th. Hopefully her bad kidney will be removed and her health will improve.

Now I have specifics to pray for.

For two and a half years you put up with me. Now you get to go home. You are incredibly awesome! And I love you tons. Have a safe trip and come back soon.

Meantime, I'm done crying. I'm actually smiling because I've got a ton of memories and good times to remember, probably just enough to survive until you come back. Thanks for making not only my life better, but the lives of everyone out here better. It takes a very special person to do that.

Cat Travels

I've driven the New Jersey turnpike. Cars are all around you doing something over the posted 55 MPH speed limit. I actually feel safe driving on it because the people there know how to drive (i.e. if you are going to do the speed limit you move over to the RIGHT). However, my opinion might be changing after learning how this cat was discovered.

I'm Dreading Tonight

Tonight is Natalie's going away party and I'm not looking forward to it. I've spent a good portion of the day reflecting and remembering the good times and talks we've had over the past two years. A couple of times I've wanted to cry (like right now) and I'm not sure how I'm going to hold up tonight. I know there is a lot I want to share with her, I'm just not sure how I'm going to get it across. Dang it! I wish she didn't have to leave. What is God trying to beat into my stubborn, puny little head?

Well, the party starts at 7:30. I still need to pick up a cake. Sigh! :(

I apologize to those of you who find me uplifting all the time. You might want to check back in 2007 because I'm certain of one thing this year - I'm not in control.
