House shopping

One of my mother's favorite past times is house shopping. She loves taking company from out of town to look at houses. Well, today she may have one upped herself. We looked at a house from Pulte homes and she fell in love with a model that is 3000+ sq. feet for around $215k. She wants me to help her buy it and she'll give me a whole floor to myself. It's a great deal and it's only a couple of blocks further up from where I'm living right now, plus the one floor I would get is as large as a house right now so if she'll just put in my own door, I'll be set. Plus, I would have a house to live in after they die in about 30 years or so.

Weekend Update

Well, another weekend has come and gone. It has been very rewarding personally and spiritually. Personally, I have family from NY in town and that really brings a lot of joy to my life. It's great to have them here and of course, their stay here will not be long enough. Maybe we can convince them to move here...

Spiritually it has been a very rewarding weekend. I was fortunate enough to help with the Youth Ministry Impact Day. I left there feeling fulfilled and really feeling like I had met my own challenge to my group - to please God more and more everyday. I was also fortunate enough to listen to a lesson that was preached last weekend that I feel will help turn my world upside down and bring back the radical mindset that I used to have. It will be interesting to see how God uses this mindset.

I'm off tomorrow so I probably wont post. Have a good Monday everyone!

New Mexico on fire

This is a reason to leave New Mexico as quickly as possible and never come back. For the second time this month, a fire has broken out in Albuquerque.

1st Day Back at Work

The only bad thing about vacations is coming back to work. I hate it. You should be allowed to come and work based on the schedule you set during your vacation.

Phoenix Recap

After a long week of rest, relaxation, wanting to kill my brother and wanting to yell at my parents, I'm home. Yes, it was fun sleeping in until 9 AM PDT, then swimming and shopping before the games. Yes, it was fun watching the Yankees pound the Diamondbacks into submission for the first two games. Yes, it was fun getting some color on my legs, but in the end, I'm happy to be home and to be able to sleep in my own bed. There is something about trying to sleep in a foreign bed, especially when you find a weird looking bug crawling on the wall right by it on the first night (and when you are afraid of scorpions like I am you tend to think everything is a scorpion, especially in Phoenix). Would I do it again? Absolutely. In fact, I will be gone at least two more times this year. When the cat is gone the mice play, know what I mean?

I'm home

It's been a long week but well worth it. I'll be posting more as the weekend goes on.
It's good to be home.

I'm Outie

I'm going on vacation. Yes, a full week of sweltering heat, walking the mall's and baseball games in Phoenix. If I can find someplace close to where I'm staying that has some type of connectivity I'll try to post, if not, I'll write when I get back.

Ciao!

Movie Review

Welcome to a first here at DDJT - movie reviews! I took some valuable time yesterday to watch Garfield The Movie. I was impressed by the work done incorporating a CG Garfield in with real cats and dogs. As much fun as the movie was, I was disappointed with the plot. There were several inconsistencies between the movie and the comic book. For example, some of you might know that Odie originally belonged to Jon's friend Lyman and somehow, he left Odie under the care of Jon and has never returned. In the movie, Odie is a dog that is up for adoption at the vet and Liz (the veterinarian) works at. Another inconsistency is between Liz and Jon. In the comic, Jon is always trying to go on a date with Liz and every time he asks, she turns him down. In the movie, he actually ends up with Liz. It makes for a great story but I like consistency in my movies. Overall, I would recommend seeing the movie at the matinee price or as a dollar (two dollar) show. One and a half thumbs up.

Jason, this is for you

I think you'll get a kick out of this.

Loss of a Legend

I know some of you (we don't mention names) aren't fired up about my musical preferences but I've got to acknowledge one of the greats.

Here We Go Again

Do you get tired of this?

Thanks Ronnie!

I owe a little bit of thanks to President Ronald Reagan. You see, because he decided that last Saturday would be a good time to stop fighting Alzheimer's Disease I get tomorrow off, with pay. Thus, I'll be starting my vacation a day early. If you are wondering what I'm going to do tomorrow, besides sleeping in, I'll be with my brother, driving him around the surrounding areas. I just hope I don't kill him in the process.

Welcome Home

Since I haven't received a phone call contrary to this I will officially welcome home my brother for the first time in two years. I will be missing this evening's festivities (i.e. - midweek devo) to have dinner with him and the family, since this will probably be the only time I will see him before he leaves Sunday. Considering it has almost been a year since the last time I saw him, I consider myself fortunate. If you try and can't get in touch with me the next few days, you'll know why.

Friendship

I admit that I'm not the best at keeping friendships strong but one thing I do consider myself is loyal. Jason , a man who helped shape my life spiritually is going through a major challenge in his life. It's the same challenge I went through starting November 2002 through July 2003. I know he's going to need a lot of strength and all our prayers. I ask you to pray for him in his time of need. Pray for his spiritual and physical strength. Pray for his emotional status. Pray for his wife to support him like only she can. Together we will help him through this. Together God will answer our prayers.

Baseball

I'm a HUGE baseball fan, as some of you know so it shouldn't surprise you to know that I consider this time of the year the second best part of the season. The best part of the season is the playoffs and the second best part is when interleague play starts. Interleague play gives me the rare opportunity to see my Yankees play and I will get to see them play, next week in Phoenix. Since interleague play has started, I've seen the Yankees play a National League team live twice. Next week will be the third time (if you are interested I've seen them play in Colorado, in Yankee Stadium against the Mets and next week in Phoenix). Ah, the national past time. I love it!

Super Saturday

About the only way the day could have been better is if these things happened to me. Congratulations to Frank, the latest graduate from the University of Phoenix. He received his MBA in Hospital Administration after a long uphill climb, which included marriage late last year. Also, congratulations to Pablo & Eglis, who are now officially engaged to get married. Pablo proposed after singing Somewhere Out There at Karaoke last night. It's not the most romantic place, in my opinion, but there was a certain charm to it all. I have pictures of both events so shoot me a message if you want copies.

To Xbox or not to Xbox

I know I'm really dating myself here but the last game system I got was the original Nintendo (I think George Bush Sr. was in office at the time - yikes!). I'm thinking about buying a new one but I don't know which one I should focus on. I like the Xbox because of it's price ($100) but from what I've been told, I should get a Playstation 2 because it has the better sports games. I'm needing to be swayed here so whaddya think?

Yippie!

I finally found out when I will return to NY. My brother will be officially leaving (and hopefully never returning) NJ on September 26th, which means I'll be out of NM for at least a week if not more. There will be a welcome home John party sometime that week. You are all invited. Just remember to bring the cake, drinks, cups, forks, napkins, plates, etc. and find a place to meet. I'll meet you there when I get back.

Wacky Southerners

Now I'm not one to bag on southerners. In fact, I'm very good friends with some southerners but this one is too strange, even for my fairly liberal point of view. Check it out.

Thanks to the people at CIRT here at UNM I'm now using wireless networking. This is great. I might have to try to do something like this at home...maybe not.

Wedding Update

Congratulations to Kateri & Oliver Morris! The wedding was wonderful. Ollie, you da man! I was so moved by your respect and charm (he, he, my word for the day) as you read your vows to Kateri. I hope you wont mind if I borrow that from you in the future.

If the rest of the pictures I took came out I'll post a link other wise, c'est la vie.

Update! I found the "missing" pictures, but I'm not sure I want to edit them and post them somewhere. If you want to see them, e-mail me. Just make sure you have a large inbox because these are high quality picts.
