4th of July Bottlenecks

I heard about this on the Peak this morning. Very interesting. I guess people don't flock to NM for the 4th. This is good, because our roads and our drivers are bad enough without the extra traffic on them.

Daily Reading Material

I want to take this time to welcome a couple of new readers to DDJT:
First is Elisa "George" Berg. George and I used to rub elbows during the time I was fortunate enough to be allowed to travel alone at Sandia National Labs. She is a highly entertaining, opinionated and an overall great person. I suggest you stop by and visit her blog.

Second is Dan "the man" Davis (a.k.a. Danny). Dan used to live here in ABQ but got shipped off with his parents to San Diego when the ministry there came calling. Now he is in Georgia, getting ready to turn 21 (thanks Dan, now I really feel old) and is probably a good 6+ inches taller than me (o.k. - now I'm starting to get mad). Head over to his blog to hear the college stories of a great guy.

Thanks to these two, my readership has increased to almost five. Wow. Is this how all the greats got their start?

The Heat is on

The chiller is down at work.

That means there is no A/C.

That means it will be 90 billion degrees in my office.

That means the servers will probably crash from excessive heat (even though I'm pumping air on them).

Do me a favor. If you see me lying on the floor, drenched in sweat, dump a bucket of cool water on me.

Last night's (supposed) filling - Mocha with Hazelnut. All I will say is that was not the flavor that was anticipated.

The Worst Drivers live in ABQ?

I've experienced driving in such places as New York, New Jersey, San Diego, Phoenix, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Columbus and I can say, without a doubt, that the worst drivers live in ABQ.

Unfortunately, Allstate doesn't agree with me but there is good news (and no, I did not change my car insurance to Geico). Albuquerque does rank in the lower half of drivers in the country (except for Massachusetts), which means I'm almost right. The drivers in ABQ are bad, just not the worst in the country (yet).

Weekend Update

I had a very busy weekend. Saturday, I was in Los Alamos celebrating Gina's graduation from LAHS (school colors: green and gold - yuck!). Now that she has "arrived", I am scared. She starts college in the fall and I really believe she will spend too much time partying and not enough time focusing on school (since it's her first time away from the parents). Sigh! What is a big brother supposed to do but pick her up when she falls down?

Last night, I played my second softball game of the season. We won on a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the last inning. Great excitement and drama. I highly suggest you attend my next game.

Side note: the Yankees still suck. Only a matter of time before someone is fired...

Something Fishy

Memo to travelers to Australia (read: Jason). Bringing fish into the country in your apron is a costly felony.

Travelling Woes

The only part about travel is the travel itself. For example, I came back from NY this weekend and my shoulder was hurting, my legs needed to be stretched and I couldn't sleep. That's not a good combination for anyone much less me. See, when my shoulder acts up, I have to spend the next day fighting off a fever and flu-like symptoms (body aches, always tired, extremely hot, etc.). That isn't fun and if I didn't have a level of mental toughness to me I wouldn't do things like see Star Wars on Monday or take care of the dogs or take care of the yard. Instead, I would just bum around, lay on the couch and watch t.v.

The moral of the story? Well, let's just say I wont be flying America West to NY anytime soon. Something about going ABQ to PHX to JFK and back doesn't sit right with me. Fortunately, I'm not planning any trips to NY in the future.
