Friday Update

Well, the trip to NY went fine and the weather is actually pretty warm. I'll be leaving for my cousin's wedding in a few but I just wanted to tell everyone that I'm here and looking forward to enjoying some R&R. I might post tomorrow, depending on how everything goes tonight. In the meantime, let's go Yankees!

I'm Outie

Just to let you know, I am in the airport preparing to leave for New York. Yes, my cousin is getting married tomorrow. No, I am not going to the Yankees/Red Sox game Saturday. Nope, I get to babysit Saturday instead. Bummer for me.

Good Riddance

For those of you who follow the NBA you know that last night marked the end of Reggie Miller's career. I, for one, am happy to see the sucka go. You see, in the 90's, while my Knicks were really good, it was one Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers that killed the Knick's chances at returning to the NBA finals in 1995. In fact, it was one Reggie Miller who single handly scored 8 points in 20 seconds to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the Eastern Conference Semi's by shoving Greg Anthony to the floor as the ball was inbounded (no call, of course), proceed to step behind the 3-point line and swish the game winning shot (and no, I do not blame Patrick Ewing for losing that series). The guy seemed to love playing at MSG and Spike Lee brought the best out of him (if the Knicks were smart they would have traded for Reggie and let Spike coach him).
So, it is with much gratitude that I say "good riddance" to Reggie Miller. Do us Knicks' fans a favor and stay retired. Don't pull a Michael Jordan and comeback.

Only one football violation? C'mon, you really expect me to believe that? Is there some NCAA conspiracy going on here? "Let's not take away the National Championship they won by finding violations in the program." "We'll wait a couple of years and then hit them with a violation so their fans will be happy they can keep their title."

Graduation Day

There is something about graduation day that gives me goosebumps. When I attend a commencement, whether it is college or high school I suffer from a flood of memories stemming from my life and experiences with graduation. With that, I was honored to be able to encourage a couple of graduates today. Natalie and Pete both have been pillars of our campus ministry. I consider myself luck because Natalie will be joining my group this summer, however, Phoenix will be just as lucky as Pete will be returning there to continue his education with some type of post-graduate degree.

Also, kudos go out to Ed. Ed has been working on his masters degree after graduating from UNM a couple of years ago and marrying his sweetheart, Heidi. I don't know if you've ever tried to earn a masters degree because it certainly isn't easy. I know because I tried and failed so a huge congratulations go out to Ed and Natalie for earning master's degree's and congratulations to Pete for his hard work and for finishing in four years.

How Sweep It Is!

Now we are playing like the New York Yankees I know. Even though our starting pitching wasn't great, the bats came alive, thanks to Tino Martinez's fifth homerun in five games.
Tomorrow, we are off and travel to Oakland for a weekend series. I don't see any reason we shouldn't play as well against them as we did this past weekend.

Weekend Update

I actually had a pretty good weekend. First, happy belated mother's day to all the mom's who happen to stop by. Yes, I did good and got a gift both for my mother and grandmother (and I got them early). But that wasn't the highlight of my weekend. No, my highlight had to do with my lousy (right now) Yankees. They actually have a winning streak going right now and Randy Johnson will pitch tonight against the Seattle Mariners. I would love for them to run off a week long winning streak this week. Also, I may have found a house to live in. I'll keep you informed as things become clearer on that.

Apple OS X Flaws

It is a well documented fact that Microsoft Windows has vulnerabilities, hence the reason for monthly updates from Microsoft. That being said, Apple has made it well known that their OS was far more stable than Windows and used it as both a marketing ploy and selling point against the world's most famous OS. This may or may not be true but one thing I do know, Microsoft would never issue fixes to 20 different vulnerabilities at one time. Why? The honest truth is Windows isn't as vulnerable as everyone says it is. I think the most fixes I've seen Microsoft issue was a couple of months back when something like 12 fixes were issued and not all of them were for Windows (some were for Microsoft Office 2003). My prediction, someone will completely compromise OS X well before anyone uses one of the security vulnerabilities in Windows to completely compromise a system.

This is a huge blow to not only Apple but the UNIX community as well. The moral of the story, Open Source isn't more secure than Windows. Stop the lying, stop the marketing and stop fooling yourselves.

Runaway Bride

I'm sure all of you have been following this story closely, especially if you live or have lived in Albuquerque. One of my best friends is from Georgia (right Nat?) but I'm really wondering, for those of you who are married, how much of a reality was this for you while you were engaged? To be perfectly honest, I would be worried sick that this would happen to me and then how would I react afterwards?

I certainly hope none of my friends have to go through this. I definitely hope I don't have to go through it either.
