Being the start of the holiday season I would like to share some thoughts from the other side of the looking glass with you.
1) Spare the poor sap who is working for $5.25/hr. at the grocery store on Thanksgiving from having to stay at work late because you decided it would be a great day to shop for everything you need for Thanksgiving dinner. Odds are he/she has never missed Thanksgiving dinner in their life and you have now made it impossible for them to eat a hot meal that night. I hope you feel good about yourself afterwards.
2) Quit procrastinating! Go to the grocery store
tonight! Check your shelves and cabinets, make a list of what you need and get it tonight. Don't make some poor cashier have to work late and miss dinner because you are too lazy to shop early.
3) If you have to go to the store on Thursday, expect to wait and don't get mad at the store for being busy. Get mad at the people in front of you who decided that Thursday would be a great day to shop for Thanksgiving dinner and are arguing with the cashier about why their frozen turkey wont be ready to eat because of how busy the store is.
4) If you must shop Thursday, don't expect to find shopping carts. They are all being used by the people who decided that Thursday would be a great day to shop for Thanksgiving dinner.
5) Halftime of the football game is not a good time to run to the store to buy more ice. You will spend at least 20 minutes in line, which means you will probably miss half of the 3rd quarter, which will coincide with the part in the game when the Cowboys get blown out.
6) If you must shop Thursday, please make sure you have everything you came to buy in your possession before getting in line. A good cashier will not wait for you to run to the back of the store to get one more bunch of radishes.
7) Cashiers are not in a good mood. Don't try to be cute and tell them how much you love Thanksgiving. If you want to make them feel good, go home. Better yet, hop behind the register and finish their shift for them. Maybe you'll get a better understanding of what they go through.
8) Lastly, it's Thanksgiving already. Go home. Spend time with the family, not at the store.
I friendly reminder from someone who was on the other side of the register for many a holiday.
